Congressman Hayes, Hon. M. V. Gannon and Hon. Don Wynkoop, of the second congressional district, were visitors in Anamosa this week. These gentlemen were witnesses in the case of Chester Turney, an inmate of the penitentiary, vs. Marquis Barr, warden. Turney demanded release from prison on a writ of habeas corpus. He was sentenced in Judge Hayes’ district court in Clinton to seventeen years servitude for the crimes of larceny and burglary committed at Preston, Jackson County, Iowa. He was arraigned on fourteen indictments. Judge Giffen declined to grant a writ of habeas corpus.-Anamosa Journal, 23rd.
