Maquoketa Man Files First Bankruptcy In Iowa.
Dubuque is said to have an illustration of the working of the new bankruptcy law immediately , says the Dubuque Telegraph. This morning Clerk Van Duzee of the federal court, received the petition of Fletcher Kearney of Maquoketa to become a bankrupt. The law went into effect July 1, but no action could be taken under it until August 1. It is believed that Kearney’s petition is the first filed in the state. Mr. Kearney is a voluntary bankrupt, that is he petitions for it.
