Sabula Gazette
July 15, 1876Ben C. Rich, Esq. in his history of Delmar, read on the Fourth, has this to say of the Sabula, Ackley and Dakota Railroad: “The S. A. & D. track was laid across Main street on the 10th day of October, 1871, at which point they erected their depot and laid their side tracks; Mr. F. E. Bradshaw being appointed first station agent, which position he still holds. Delmar owes its existence to this road more than either of the others. In fact it is doubtful if the other roads would have made a town here at all had the Sabula and Ackley road crossed elsewhere, but through the untiring efforts of our honored townsman, S. S. Norton, the road was secured and the town started.”
