New City Manager Named By City Council

The city council met in regular session last evening and after the regular routine of business was completed the matter of naming a city manager to fill the vacancy caused by the death of G. O. Morse, was taken up. The council had several eligibles under advisement and had carefully investigated the qualifications of each candidate, finally decided upon the appointment of J. G. Thorne of Clinton.

Mr. Thorne came before the body with high recommendations, is a civil engineer and has long been associated with civic affairs, so that we, like the members of the council, feel that we have a competent man who will carefully and skillfully conduct his important office. Harry Joiner, who was elected manager pro-tem at the last meeting, will remain as Mr. Thorne’s assistant until May 1st, when another position awaits him. Mr. Thorne will move his family to our city as soon as roads permit, and to him and his we extend a hearty welcome.
