Davenport Gazette, September 9, 1847.

TO EMIGRANTS.

Fine Opportunity For Investment.

A permanent interest may be obtained of the subscriber, by purchase or lease, in his EXTENSIVE WATER POWER
Located at the town of CANTON, on the South Fork of the Maquoketa river, Jackson county, Iowa. This water power is very eligibly situated, banks and bottom rocky, with sufficient room for any amount of machinery, and is surrounded by large bodies of fine timber.
The machinery now in operation, consisting of a Flouring Mill, Saw Mill, Carding Machine, and Turning Machines, will be sold, leased or rented on reasonable terms.
A better opening for a stock of goods is nowhere to be found; the subscriber is now erecting a large building, three stories, including basement, intended for a store, which he will rent low to any one for that purpose. There is also, nearly finished, a large two story building, designed as a public house, which will be let for that purpose to a good tenant.
Good and permanent employment can be obtained at this place by mechanics and machinists of almost every kind.
Good selections can yet be made of public land, prairie and timber, in the vicinity of the above place. These are facts just as they exist. Let all persons desirous of situations in the West call and see for themselves as they are assured no better can be obtained.

JOHN J. TOMLINSON.
