WOMAN’S SUFFRAGE MEETING

The Woman’s Suffrage meeting was held in Dr. Allen’s yard was well attended, notwithstanding the rain. Interesting speeches were made by Rev. Keith, Mayor Baker, Dr. Allen and others. Articles of interest were read by Mrs. Julia Dunham and Mrs. Seba Stephens. Resolutions were offered by Mrs. Sophia Stewart, Mrs. Wilbur, Mrs. Allen, and Mr. J. Markle. After a collection and intellectual feast, a motion to adjourn to one year from the 19th of July, 1878, to the 19th of July, 1879, at the same place, carried.

DR. J. H. ALLEN, physician and surgeon. On September 24, 1857, married Nancy R. Lyon, formerly Miss Nancy R. Hall. Mrs. Allen is a graduate of Mrs. Field’s Seminary, Erie, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Allen is an active worker in the reform movements of the day; she was the first Secretary of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union of Iowa; she was a delegate to the Nation Temperance Convention, at Cleveland, in 1875, and is Secretary of the State Woman’s Suffrage Association.
