City Attorney J. C. Gregory Leaves Ranks of Singleness

Well, what do you know about that? “Broad” Gregory, our newly elected city attorney-city clerk, married. And then to think that he would do a trick like that without getting permission of the city council, his folks or anybody. Well, it’s too late to enter any protest now and we wouldn’t if we could for the pretty little ceremony that Rev. J. G. Morgan performed Tuesday evening, united two of the finest young people of the city and everybody’s glad of it. You know Mr. Gregory is a might shrewd lawyer and came might near stealing a march on his friends and would have succeeded had it not been for Ralph Ogden, that little fellow who works in the American Savings bank, who, while passing the parsonage, happened to see the nuptial service while in session, and hurriedly sped up town to herald the joyful news. A fleet of several cars filled with noisy fun makers hastened to the “quiet” wedding and turned loose the sirens and honked forth their congratulations.

The bride – Miss Ruth Templeton – is one of our popular young ladies refined and accomplished, but like her fiancé, forgot to pull the curtain before the ceremony, but this oversight is no fault at that, and her friends, will be no fewer because of it.

A professional nurse by vocation, Mrs. Gregory by her efficiency, kindness and happy disposition, has won countless friends among old and young, who in unison voice their very best wishes to her and hers.

Mr. Gregory is one of our promising, young attorneys, a graduate of our high school and Iowa State college, the junior member of the firm Ely & Gregory, and a short time ago was elected city attorney and city clerk. He served his country in the late world war, and is one of the live wires in the affairs of the city and its various organizations.

After the ceremony the happy couple gallantly admitted their failure in “getting by” with their prank, and were escorted by the jolly convoy of cars to the border of the city when the latter returned, while the newlyweds motored on to Davenport thence to Chicago, where they are spending their honeymoon. Upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Gregory will be at home to their friends in the Allen Flats.
