Maquoketa Weekly Excelsior, November 4, 1872,

-On Thursday of last week, a terrible accident occurred at the farm of Mr. D. D. Cotton, four miles north of this place. Several persons were requested to enter a stable having a grain bin overhead. Three persons, Mr. W. Smith, a little daughter, and Nicholas Limmer entered, but scarcely were they inside when the huge bin came down with a crash, burying the inmates beneath the debris. Mr. Smith and daughter escaped with comparitively no injury, but Mr. Limmer was instantly killed. The accident was occasioned by a fault in the construction of the bin. -Picket, Oct 23.
