Jackson Sentinel, October 20, 1870:

Older's Menagerie and Circus was promptly on hand last Monday as advertised. The day was cold and wet, but that did not seem to deter anybody from attending, as the canvass was well filled, both afternoon and evening. A number of juveniles had provided themselves with smoked glass to look at the "seven thousand dazzling mirrors," but as the sun did not shine this precaution was rendered unneccessary. The "Cardiff Giant" was the center of attraction, and a pretty fair specimen of sculpture it is, too. The circus performance was as good as could be expected from artists worn down by five months constant travelling.
