Jackson Sentinel, March 4, 1921:

CHAMP CLARK DEAD

Death closed the great career of Champ Clark of Missouri, Wednesday, he passing away at his Washington apartments within the shadow of the capitol. For the past twenty-five years he had been one of the strongest figures in national politics and up until ten days before death, was actively working as minority leader in the House of Representatives. He came within a hairs breadth of receiving the nomination for the presidency on the Democratic ticket in 1921. Both houses of congress will pay formal respect to the dead statesman on Saturday next at which time the funeral will be held.
(Clark was the main speaker at the Chautaqua assembly held in Maquoketa in June, 1907.)
