MR. AND MRS. CARL FISCHER WERE WED FIFTY YEARS AGO

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fischer is being observed (today) Friday, Feb. 27 at the home, 304 N. Olive stret, where relatives and friends will take possession of their home and make this day one to be long remembered.

A dinner will be served at noon to the relatives and the home will be thrown open to friends from two to five p.m. A large wedding cake, beautifully decorated, will form the center piece of the tastefully arranged table and was donated by two of the grandsons, Leroy and Arthur Fischer, sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Fischer.

Happy memories of that day long ago will return to Mr. and Mrs. Fischer, and pleasant incidents of the intervening years will be repeated by friends and relatives.

Sophia Loitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Loitz, was born in Germany in 1860 and Carl Fischer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fischer, was born in 1858 in Germany. Both came to America with their parents in December 1880, and on February 27, the following year, were united in marriage at the Lutheran church at Maquoketa.

For some time they resided in this city, later moving to Hurstville and Welton, and for ten years resided on the Sanborn farm near Maquoketa. Seventeen years ago they purchased a home on N. Olive street, where they have continued to live.

Five of the eight children will be with them on this happy day. They are Will of Nashville, Mrs. Fred Becker of Clinton, Mrs. Fred Lambertson of Minneapolis; John of Maquoketa, and Mrs. J. Fottral of McGregor. Three of the children, Carl and Mrs. Anna Lewis of California and Fred of Texas, were unable to be present. There are twelve grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Fischer received a gift of $50 in gold from their children, and many other gifts from relatives and friends.

Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Holppner of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hubbe of Calamus, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Fischer of Toronto.
