The many friends of Otto Berendes will be pained to hear of the serious accident which befell him last Saturday morning, while engaged in cutting wood near the old Etting homestead. A tree which he cut had lodged in a smaller tree nearby, and in attempting to cut it down it bounced back striking Mr. Berendes a few inches above the ankle, breaking both bones in his leg straight across. Fortunately, Mr. Etting was with him, and soon procured the assistance of his father Fred Etting and others, who took the unfortunate man to the home of Mr. Etting, where they did all that common skill could devise to make him comfortable until Dr. Blocklinger arrived, who replaced the broken member, and he is doing as well could be expected under the circumstances. – Bellevue Leader.
