Frederick H. Storm, an enterprising young farmer on the sunny side of thirty, has made an excellent start in life, being pleasantly located on an improved farm on section 23, of Fairfield Township. He is possessed of more than ordinary intelligence, and completed his education in the business school at Clinton, from which he was graduated with honors. He was reared to farm pusuits, and is thus well equipped for the further duties and labors of life, which he has chosen to spend in the agricultural districts.

A native of Cook County, Ill., our subject was born Jan. 14, 1861, and is the son of George Storm a native of Mecklenburg, Germany, who was born April 6, 1833. The latter emigrated to America in the spring of 1853, embarking from Hamburg and landing in New York City. Thence he came to Chicago, Ill., and was a resident of Cook County thereafter for a period of nine years. From there he came to Iowa in 1862. He was employed on the railroad for a time before leaving Chicago, but afterward turned his attention to farming, and soon after crossing the "Father of Waters" purchased land in Fairview Township, this county.

The mother of our subject, Mrs. Lena (Burinster) Storm, was a native of the same place as her husband, and they were married in Chicago, March 26, 1858, not long after her arrival in America. She died at the old homestead in Fairfield, in 1881, at the age of eighty-two years, and had retained her mental faculties to a remarkable degree. Four of the six children born to the parents of our subject are living, namely: Frederick H., Charles John, William August and Henry Frederick. Charles married Miss Hattie Prior, of Preston, and lives in Dallas County; her husband is agent and telegraph operator in the employ of the Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Company. William Storm is living in Preston with his parents, attending school; Henry F. is the baby of the family.

When ready to establish domestic ties of his own our subject was married, March 2, 1883, to Miss Caroline Schmidt. The parents of Mrs. Storm, John and Wilhemina Schmidt, were natives of Mecklenburg, Germany, and emigrated to America in 1856, prior to the birth of their daughter, Caroline, who is a native of Lyons, this State, and who was born Aug. 12, 1862. There were ten children in this family. The eldest, Henry T. married Miss Bertha Wilke, of Clinton County, and they live on a farm in Crawford County; they have two children - Emma and George. Louis F. married Miss Mary E. Long, of Clinton County, and is farming in Crawford County. He has two children - Albert and Christopher F. Charles F. married Miss Mina Rohn, of Crawford County, and is living there engaged in farming and stock-raising. Christopher is a resident of Crawford County. Joseph, Frederick, Bertha Mary, August and Frena Christina, are residents of Clinton County.

When the Storm family came to this county the country was mostly in its primitive condition, and the settlers few and far between. Mr. Storm first purchased eighty acres of land and put up a house, and for several seasons thereafter bent his energies to the cultivation of the soil, and erecting the buildings most necessary for his comfort and convenience. He was prospered in his labors, and purchased 160 acres more land, which he added to a few years later by the purchase of eighty acres, and is now the owner of 470 acres. He has, however, retired from active labor, and makes his home in Preston, leaving his son, our subject, in charge of his farming interests. Both he and his estimable wife are members in good standing of the Lutheran Church, and politically, Mr. Storm is a sound Democrat - one who has always interested himself in the success of his party. He has held the offices of Township Trustee, School Director and Road Supervisor, and has uniformly acquitted himself as a useful citizen.

Our subject and his wife are the parents of two children - John George and George John. Mr. Storm, politically, is like his father, a stanch Democrat. He has been Assessor two terms, and Secretary of the School Board five years. Both he and his wife are members of the Lutheran Church. Mr. Storm makes a speciality of Short-horn cattle, and is the owner of a fine Norman Stallion, besides other valuable stock. There is every prospect of a successful career for him - one which the people who have known him so long are watching with friendly interest.
