Rev. Edward Hipschen

Relatives and friends filled St. Joseph's church to capacity on Sunday for the first solemn high mass of the Rev. Edward Hipschen, ordained on Thursday at St. Mary's, Kansas. Assisting as deacon was the Rev. James Carroll of Boston, Mass., ordained with Father Hipschen and the Rev. Mr. Henry Duffy as sub-deacon, and the Rev. Joseph Hagemann of Petersburg, as arch-priest.

As the procession of priests, altar boys and Father Hipschen, with his niece, Mary Carolyn Hipschen, the bride and his nephews, Edward Carl Wagner, John Paul Jones, James Kolker and cousin Dale Lauterborn, pages and his cousins, Marion Lucke and Gloria Keil, the flower girls, marched from the parsonage to the church, the members of the Knights of Columbus former ranks.

Sister Lucinda played the processional and recessional and the Rev. J. E. Linkenmeyer delivered a fine sermon on the calling of the priesthood. At the close of the mass the congregation joined in singing Holy God.

A dinner honoring the new priest, the first from Bellevue, was served in the school auditorium. Rev. Hipschen has two sisters in religious orders, Sister Mary Michael of Chicago and Sister Mary Carolyn of Fort Dodge who were present at his ordination and his first mass.
