JOHN HUFF, CIVIL WAR VETERAN, CELEBRATES 87th BIRTHDAY SUNDAY
John Huff, one of the three remaining veterans of the Civil War, in Maquoketa, passed his 87th birthday Sunday. He was honored with a family dinner at his home on South Second Street.
He was remembered by the Relief Corps with an old fashioned bouquet of flowers, and the G. A. R. also remembered him with a gift.
Mr. Huff was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1847 and has been a resident of Iowa for many years. He enlisted in the Civil War in Company C, 11th Wisconsin Infantry and served for three years and four months.
After the close of the war he returned to Maquoketa where he engaged in farming for a number of years and a few years ago retired from farm life and became a resident of Maquoketa.
