LT. COL. FLOYD THOMAS HONORED IN SICILY

Lt. Col. Floyd Thomas, formerly of Maquoketa, was honored in Sicily for his service as military governor of Trapani province. Col. Thomas served as Jackson County Attorney and was the first commander of Timber City Post 75, American Legion. The Colonel is a veteran of World War I and was a professor of law at the University of Arizona in Tucson before being called to active duty in February, 1941. He served as senior civil affairs officer of Trapani province for six months.

The citizens of Trapani province honored Col. Thomas at a formal reception by presenting him with a marble bust, which will be placed in the Municipio hall of Trapani. The prefect of Trapani, Paolo D'Antoni, asked Col. Thomas to sit for the bust, by Domenico Limuli, the leading artist of Sicily.

Col. Thomas came to Sicily as a stranger and helped the people rebuild their bombed city and restore the transportation system and streets and provide food and clothing for the people.
