We understand that there are four aspirants for Judge Hayes’ seat in Congress, namely: The Judge himself, Jerry Hennepin Murphy, of Davenport, Sheriff Wm. Desmond, of Clinton County, and last but not least by a long shot, our own ex-State Senator, Hon. G. L. Johnson, of Maquoketa, and the same is the Leader’s choice among the four, because we favor home first – the world afterward. – Bellevue Leader. He is our first choice too for the same reason, and for the better one that he is a much better man for the place than either of the others mentioned.
