CHARLES P. GORDON, blacksmith, Maquoketa; is a native of Delaware
Co., Ohio; was born Dec. 27, 1819; he was brought up and learned his trade in
Huron Co.; he came to Jackson Co., arrived at Maquoketa Oct. 11, 1842, and began
Working at his trade; he built a log shop where Mitchell's store now stands, and has
continued the business ever since, for thirty-nine years; his shop is now the oldest in the
county; there is not a man doing business in Maquoketa now who was here when he
came; he has held the office of Justice of the Peace and City Councilman. He married
Miss Oriette Livermore, a native of New York, in June, 1840; they have nine
