Jackson County Whig Candidates

First on the list stands that staunch old whig, Capt. E. G. POTTER, of Bellevue. The Capt. is a whig all over; inside and outside, upper side and lower side, right side and wrong side, in short, every thing about him is whig, and there is nothing whig but what is about him. He is the embodiment of whiggery. We know of no man in the whig ranks in the entire district, upon whom could so properly devolve the office of standard bearer in the contest just now beginning. As true as the needle to the pole, as true the sun to his daily journey, as true as time is winging its rapid flight to eternity, is he to whiggery, He glories in its principles, and in maintaining them at all hazards. He stands before the people without concealment. The banner he bears is inscribed with
U. S. BANK
HIGH PROTECTIVE TARIFF,
NATIVE AMERICANISM,
21 Years probation for Foreigners, and ineligibility to Office.
LOANING THE SCHOOL FUND
To Rail Road Companies,
Or any Incorporations that will promise to pay, &c, &c, &c.

And our whig readers may rest assured he will never furl its folds, or strike a line from its portentous mottoes. Such is the whig standard, and such the banner with which the whig party march to the contest. Such are the principles of the whig party in this district, and we are glad that they have manfully declared them. The people can now choose between them and the dem. nominees, who hold that the intelligent foreigner, coming from under the lash of despotism, is prepared to appreciate his privileges without descending to childhood and traveling through gowns and kilts 21 years before he is able to exercise understandingly his rights as a citizen; that a man’s professed religion is no qualification for office or citizenship; -that we want no monster paper money factory, to control the voice of the people; that we the people of the west want no protective tariff for the benefit of eastern money mongers; that we will preserve the funds set aside for purposes of education, for that sacred purpose.
