Hundreds Honor Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wright on Golden Wedding Day

The memories of Wednesday, April 2, 1924, will indeed be golden to Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wright, for, ably assisted by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wright, and grand-daughter, Mrs. Carlyle Bowman, they welcomed scores, yes, three hundred, friends to their home on South Niagara street where each took part in gilding the fiftieth milestone of Mr. and Mrs. Wright’s wedded life with sentiments of gold.

The home doors were thrown open in the early afternoon and not long afterwards the registration of guests began. A steady inflow of neighbors and friends seemed eager to grasp the hands of bride and groom, who were equally eager to return the spirit of good will. The bride was tastily arrayed in a handsome gown of grey silk, and we doubt if there are any modern newlyweds whose appearance and poise could outshine that displayed by this worthy couple.

The Kiwanis club paid its respects by its members calling in a body during the afternoon, leaving a handsome bouquet as further evidence of their esteem. Miss Minnie Atzen, assisted at the piano by Mrs. Verda Rogers, gave some delightful vocal selections which certainly added to the enjoyment of the afternoon reception. At seven in the evening, the doors were again flung open and a steady stream of well-wishing friends were soon pouring into the home. The O. E. S., W. R. C., and a large delegation from the Masonic bodies, paid their respects in a body, each leaving a gold word of congratulation. The Keeney orchestra furnished splendid music throughout the evening, while the guests were favored with light refreshments and a memory card neatly printed in gold. The floral arrangements were very elaborate, and seldom is seen an array of blossoms more beautiful or profuse. The event in its allnes was a most brilliant one, and may justly go down in the annals of our community social functions as “golden.”

Among many congratulatory messages received from distant ones, was a telegram from their grandson, Johnny Wright, who is now with his orchestra in Los Angeles, Calif., which brought with it a deluge of love and esteem, as well as deep regrets that he could not be here in person to assist his parents and sister in making the golden anniversary of Grandpa and Grandpa a success.

Mr. and Mrs. Wright were united in marriage April 2, 1874, at the old Black homestead in Otter Creek township, the bride being formerly Miss Lola Black. For thirty-six years Mr. Wright has conducted a grocery business in our city and all during this long residence with us, he with his estimable wife have enjoyed the respect and esteem of all, as was evidenced so clearly Wednesday as they passed their golden milestone.

The Sentinel joins in congratulating them and we hope to attend their sixtieth anniversary ten years farther on.
