Jackson Bar Supports Ely for Judiciary
County Bar Association Proposes Maquoketan; To Succeed House.

Special to the Democrat

Maquoketa, Ia., March 24. - The Jackson County Bar association yesterday adopted resolutions recommending Clarence I. Ely for nomination for the position of district judge from Jackson county at the judicial convention this summer. Mr. Ely has been associated with the bar association since 1908, when he was graduated from the law school of the state university. He spent two years in Washington, D.C. where he served as secretary to Congressman Pepper of Muscatine. While in Washington he studied law in the George Washington law school.

Upon his return here in 1912 he was elected County Attorney on the democratic ticket and filled that office for 8 years. He has not been an active candidate but has signaled his willingness to accept it if it is the will of the judicial convention.

If elected he will succeed Judge A. J. House who is completing his 36th year in that office and who is the senior judge of the district.

The association organized permanently at this meeting with C. W. Farr, President, and H. D. Keeley, secretary. Plans were made to hold a meeting at each session of court hereafter. There are seventeen members of the Jackson County Bar association.
