Spring Brook
Hon. Christian Kegler, Sr., emigrated with his family to this beautiful village about 1867, when this city was in its infancy. He became its first postmaster, and has held the office ever since, which is the best comment that can glide from our pen. He is now honored as father of the village.
C. M. Kegler is the founder of the first store in the then country village, and through his conservative business methods combined with the highest integrity, has raised it to one of the largest department stores in the county. Mr. Kegler is also proprieter of the Spring Brook Creamery which standard of butter ranks next to the famous Elgin brand, considering the prices he pays for cream. He is also one of the stock holders and organizers of the Bellevue-Spring Brook telephone line, and has a neat little Hello station fixed up for the accomodation of its patrons in his large store.
