- We clip the following from the Morrison (Ill.) Sentinel, the home, for many years, of the young gentlemen spoken of coming, as it does, unsolicited from those who have known him from his boyhood, it must be very flattering to Mr. Hurd, and we cheerfully copy to our columns that our people may know by whom their children are being instructed at our Business College:

“Mr. S. C. Hurd, of this city, son of Reuben Hurd, Esq., the celebrated manufacturer and inventor of the patent on guide attachment and wedge power wagon brake, and author of a treatise on the culture of swine, has after some solicitation accepted the offer of a Professorship in the Maquoketa Business College, located at Maquoketa, Iowa. Mr. Hurd is a young man of pre-eminent ability and broad general culture received at one of the finest colleges in our land, that of Oberlin, Ohio. The citizens of Maquoketa and especially the students of the college, may congratulate themselves on having secured the services of so accomplished a scholar; and we trust the scientific and literary men of Iowa will give Professor Hurd that warm reception and recognition which his ability and learning so richly merit.”
