Jackson Sentinel, December 12, 1946:
Sokol Navy Vet.
Assistant manager of the store is Ray Sokol, native Maquoketan and son of Mayor A.W.Sokol. He joined the Penney staff in March of this year, following his separation from the Navy. Sokol contributed a three year slice of his life to the armed forces, 18 months of it as a radio operator on Admiral Joy's flagship, the U.S.S.Francisco in the South Pacific theater of operations.
He was awarded five bronze battle stars for participation in as many campaigns, and the Presidential unit citation badge. He is married and has one daughter, Janet Rae, who was a year old before she saw her father. His wife is the former Lois Wing of Maquoketa.
