Louise K. Selzer, age 94 of Des Moines, formerly of Homestead, died Friday evening, June 17, 2005 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Peter Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Homestead Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, June 20, 2005 at the Middle Amana Church. Memorial may be contributed to the Charles L. Selzer Scholarship-Clear Creek Amana School, or the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Julie Hall and husband Jerry of Altoona, and Don Carstensen of Des Moines, and two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Hunter Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles “Carl” Selzer in 1988, a daughter, Patricia Carstensen in 1999 and a brother, Theo Kippenhan in 1996.

Louise K. Kippenhan was born August 25, 1910 in Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of John and Susanna Hofer Kippenhan. She received her education in the Amana schools and married Charles Louis Selzer on March 9, 1935 at Homestead. Louise worked in the communal kitchens, was a cook at the Ox Yoke Inn and then served as the hostess at the Amana Heim Museum in Homestead. She enjoyed traveling and reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Since 2002, Louise has made her home at the Brookdale Ramsey Home in Des Moines due to failing health.
