Funeral services for Dorothy Marz, 92, Amana, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the Middle Amana Community Church. She died peacefully of natural causes Friday morning, June 17, 2011, at Colonial Manor of Amana.

Church elder Kristie Yoder officiated at the service.

Graveside services followed at the South Amana Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Amana Church Society or the Amana Heritage Society.

Dorothy Marz was born Feb. 26, 1919, in South Amana, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Setzer) Berger. She attended Amana schools. Following graduation, she was employed by various Amana businesses.

She married Louis Marz Nov. 12, 1949. The couple later divorced.

Residing many happy years in Homestead, she was the consummate homemaker. She took delight in her family and enjoyed baking, embroidery, quilting and gardening both vegetables and flowers. She displayed her faithfulness to God through stewardship to all living things and always welcomed people with a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eye. She was a member of the Amana Church Society, Homestead Welfare Club and the Amana Heritage Society.

Marz is survived by one daughter and her husband, Mary and Tom Burgher, Amana; one son and his wife, Dr. Mark and Marti Marz, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Laura Simmonds and husband Keith; Andrew Marz and Liesel and Fritz Burgher; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Anna Simmonds, and two sisters, Helen Hertel, Middle Amana, and Emma Johnson, Norwalk, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frederick, Daniel and Adolph Berger, and two sisters, Christine Engelhaupt and Emilie Berger.
