Jean Marie Sponar, age 69 of Amana, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at her home following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Glenn Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the East Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the funeral home.

She is survived by her husband Francis, a son Alan Sponar of East Amana, and several aunts and cousins. Also surviving is Peppy, her dog. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Kevin in 1985.

Jean Marie Bahndorf was born August 26, 1938 in East Amana, Iowa the daughter of Willie and Maria Hess Bahndorf. She graduated from Amana High School in 1956 and married Francis Sponar on April 6, 1957 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was employed at the Amana Store and the Woolen Mill Office and Sales Room. She also worked at the Amana Post Office and was postmaster in Homestead for 28 years. She was a member of the NAPUS Postal Union. Jean enjoyed working the daily crossword puzzle, Jumble, and Crypto Quote. She played accordion in the Octorberfest for several years and enjoyed traveling and eating out.
