Alferd J. Leichsenring, age 87 of Williamsburg, Iowa, formerly of Amana, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 9, 2007 at Middle Amana Community Church with Elder Betsy Momany officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery, Amana, Iowa with military honors. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by a son, Monte Leichsenring and wife Christine of Clarion, a daughter, Cody Shoemaker and husband Robert of Marengo; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a sister Emma Dietrich of Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2002 and a sister Lillian Babbitt.

Alferd Jack Leichsenring was born August 13, 1920 in Amana, Iowa, the son of Fred and Caroline Clemens Leichsenring. He graduated from Amana High School in 1939 and served in the U.S. Army. Alferd married Hilda Crigler on November 17, 1945 in Hagerstown, Maryland. He owned and operated the South Amana Sandwich Shop and was a maintenance worker at the Highlander in Iowa City.

Alferd was a lifelong member of the Amana Community Church. He loved music, especially folk and bluegrass, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
