Emma Johanna Zimmerman, age 80, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Middle Amana following a lengthy illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Amana Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Emma donated her body to the University of Iowa. Memorials may be contributed to Camp Courageous or the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by a son, Peter of Fort Dodge; a granddaughter, Daniele Bajus and husband Cory of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; three great-grandchildren, Carla, Jacob and Aaron Bajus; a sister, Henrietta Lastuvka and husband Joe of Des Moines, and a sister-in-law, Marie Stamen and husband Gilbert of Amana, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1999, 2 daughters, Carla Vido in 1993, and Ann Zimmerman in 1995.

Emma Johanna Kolb was born July 17, 1925 in Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ernestine Goerler Kolb. She received her education in the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School in 1945. She attended and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1948. Emma married Paul Zimmerman on June 18, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following her marriage, Emma taught private piano lessons for many years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, music and crafts and the companionship of her cats. She displayed much of her needlework in her room at Colonial Manor. She was a member of the Amana Church Society.

The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Manor and Amenity Hospice for their help and compassion in caring for Emma. They also thank the many relatives and friends who visited her faithfully during her stay at Colonial Manor.
