George Means, 86, of Parkville, MO, formerly of Victor, IA died on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 7, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor, IA. The family will receive friends at the visitation held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in North English Cemetery in North English, IA.
Memorial checks may be made payable to his daughter, Donnetta Kerr and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347. Memories and condolences may be shared online with George’s family at www.smithfh.com.
George Edward Means was born on April 10, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Rowena (Roller) Means. He was raised on a farm in Malcom and Victor, Iowa. He received his education in rural school and the Victor School District.
On October 15, 1973, George was united in marriage to Shirley (Cobb) Means in Gladstone, Missouri. The couple resided in the Northland of Kansas City.
George was a member of Galaxie 500 Car Club and enjoyed the many trips they took around the country. He was proud of his lifetime membership in the NRA and Loyal Order of Moose. He was very proud of being an Iowa farm boy.
George was employed as a baker’s helper at Colonial Bread, managed a couple gas stations, worked for MO Electric, Western Electric, and AT&T as communications tech. He had a realtor’s license and was licensed to breed and sell toy fox terriers.
He is survived by 8 children; Donnetta Kerr, Carol Wheeler, Sylvia Reynolds, Molly Harris, John Faulk, Carrie Randall, Preston Faulk, and Tammy Burley; grandchildren: Rowena Robinson, Monette Kerr, Odessa Kerr, G. Scott Means, Anita Jacobs, Christopher Rothove and Brittney Rothove; and 7 great-grandchildren.
