Ruth Langenberg, 90, of Iowa City, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024 at Compass Memorial Hospital, Marengo. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM, Thursday, November 7, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Instead of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Ruth was born October 15, 1934 on the family farm in Newport Township to Herman and Alma (Sedlacek) Fuhrmeister. She helped with the family farm and enjoyed riding her white horse, Bonnie, bareback, to bring in the cattle every evening. She also tended to the geese, chickens, and garden. Ruth attended country school Newport #5 through eighth grade and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1953.

Ruth married William Langenberg at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City on June 17, 1954. As a young mother Ruth tended to the vegetable and flower gardens and spent time sewing and mending clothes for her growing family.

Ruth and Bill's love of travel took them to many places including Colorado, Canada, Europe, Hawaii and the Bahamas. She collected many cookbooks and made beautiful rosettes and kolaches over the years. She worked as a lab technician at Eye Associates in Iowa City for 40 years- retiring in 2009.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and will be missed by many. She is survived by her children, Daryle Langenberg (Sandra) of West Branch, Beverly Nicklaus (Mark) of Coralville and David Langenberg (Sharon) of Fairfax; grandchildren, Bryan Langenberg (Laura), Kelsey Langenberg, Jennifer Nicklaus, Johnathan Langenberg and Kathryn Langenberg; brother, Leo Fuhrmeister (Deanna) of Iowa City and sister Rita Fuhrmeister (George Wise) of Tiffin and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, William.
