Douglas Lee Kahler, 70, died Thursday, May 30, 2024 surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be Monday, June 3, 2024 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Doug’s name.

Doug was born October 2, 1953 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Wayne August and Dorothy Ann (Wardenburg) Kahler. He was a 1971 graduate of Williamsburg High School. On April 7, 2001 Doug married LaVonne Gebel in Jerico, Iowa.

Doug was employed at UIHC for over 38 years, retiring in 2017. Prior to that he was an electrician at Shay Electric. Following retirement Doug worked part-time in the Deli at the Coralville Hy -Vee.

Doug was known for his wit and pulling pranks. He never met a stranger, loved time spent hanging out with family and friends, and was always the center of the entertainment. Doug loved music, golf, and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers. Most important to Doug was his family. He was a proud grandfather and loved giving hugs.

Doug is survived by his wife, LaVonne and his children, Aaron Kahler of Coralville and Aja Hennes of Oxford; his father, Wayne; seven grandchildren, Oliver Dayton-Kahler, Ellie Anne Martinez, Riley Bea Hennes, Lillian Leigh Hennes, Anthony Michael Hennes, Maisie and Gabbie Martinez; son- and daughter-in-law, Uby Martinez and Carrie Martinez; siblings, Terri (Mark) Taylor of Waterloo, Brenda Enlow (Marty Feeney) of Iowa City, Randy Kahler of Coralville, Ronda Kahler (Bryan Horrell) of North Liberty, and Scott (Jennifer) Kahler of Iowa City; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters - in-law, and extended family.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; brother, Greg; sister-in-law Ginger Kahler; son-in-law Michael Hennes; and former spouse, Bea Kahler.
