Homestead–Marie Henriette Hagen was born September 23, 1924 in Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Helen Schaedlich Roemig. She graduated from Amana High School. Marie was united in marriage to Oren Hagen on September 13, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. Marie worked for the U.S. Post Office in Homestead for many years. She also enjoyed working with flowers and reading. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for a number of years and was active in the Ladies Aid. Marie died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a complications from surgery at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Oren; a son: Howard (Lynn) Hagen of West Des Moines; three grandsons: Matthew, Philip and Thomas; a sister: Lillian (Richard) Hagen and a brother: Robert (Betty) Roemig all of Homestead. Marie was preceded in death by her parents a son Quentin in 1973 and a sister Viola Schmidt. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Friday, October 21, 2005 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. Pastor Wayne Woolery will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
