Daryle Everett McCallister was born March 30, 1926, near Williamsburg, Iowa on the family farm. He was the son of John and Ocie (Martin) McCallister he was the 2nd to the youngest and last surviving of 10 siblings. He attended country school and Williamsburg High School. Daryle served in the United States Navy from 1945-1946 as a Seaman First Class during WWII. Daryle was united in marriage to Lila Belle Johnson on October 4, 1947 in North English. He farmed and worked for several local farmers. Daryle also worked for Wilson Meatpacking, Amana Refrigeration and for the railroad retiring after 32 years. Daryle was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, dancing, hunting, fishing, trapping, mushroom hunting, collecting items and watching baseball and boxing. His true enjoyment was spending time with his family. Daryle died Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the English Valley Care Center in North English at the age of 98 years.

He is survived by six daughters, Janice (Mike) Sheets of Muscatine, Beverly (Larry) Lehrkamp, of Willis, Texas, Barbara (Barry) Olson of Conroy, Marvel Axmear of North English, Delores (Larry) Shaull of Williamsburg and Dianne (Bruce) Haught of Iowa City; 16 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lila, a son Daryle John McCallister, 2 grandchildren Travis Haught and Alishia Paul, 4 great grandchildren Jonah Sheets, Willow, James and Damion Shaull, a great great grandchild Ezail Enriquez, son-in-law Steve Axmear, five brothers Curtis, George, Wayne, William and Donald McCallister and four sisters Opal Conn, Eileen Wagner, Ruby Schwarting and Rita Butler.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am on Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be Pilot Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the church. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
