Dallas Owen Zimmerman was born July 28, 1957, in Corydon, Iowa, the son of Carol F and Betty (McKee) Zimmerman. Dallas moved with his family from Seymour, Iowa to North English at the age of 2 years old. He attended English Valleys schools and graduated in 1975. Dallas moved to the Cedar Rapids area and attended Kirkwood College. After graduation, he was employed by the Linn County Conservation Board for a few years before working at Amana Refrigeration. There he met Lisa Laska and they were united in marriage at the Toddville Free Methodist Church on September 1, 1990.

Dallas was an active member of the Jung’s Tae Kwon Do Academy and earned a black belt in 1985. He later opened the English Valley Tae Kwon Do Academy in 1991 after he and Lisa moved to the North English area. They resided on a farm north of town, where they raised two sons, Nathan and Brandon.

Dallas enjoyed wildlife as well as raising a variety of livestock. Dallas and Lisa are member of and attended Pleasant Grove Church for most of their married life. The church was an important part of their lives and Dallas was looking forward to the return of Jesus Christ. He is happy to go on ahead of all who will follow Christ to where he is.

Dallas passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo at the age of 65 years.

Dallas is survived by his wife Lisa; two sons Nathan and Brandon; a sister Cheryl Hall; brother Don (Sandi) Zimmerman; father and mother-in-law Merlen and Mary Laska; brother & sisters-in-law Daris & Sheryl Rawson, and Kevin & Stephanie Laska; as well as many nephew and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Carol and Betty; and a brother-in-law James F Hall.

Celebration of Life Service will be held10:30 am on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
