Arlen R. Hakeman was born August 8, 1940, in Belle Plaine, the son of Harlan and Helen (Meyer) Hakeman. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1958. Arlen was united in marriage to Eileen Popelka on June 10, 1961 in Belle Plaine.

Arlen was a farmer, drove school bus for Williamsburg school, and a night security watchman for Kinze Manufacturing. He lived in the Belle Plaine and Norway areas until moving to Williamsburg in 1974. Arlen Enjoyed making yard art out of random farm machinery parts, rainy day safaris (one day sightseeing trips across Iowa) and spending time with his family.

Arlen passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at English Valley Care Center at the age of 82 years old.

Arlen is survived by his wife Eileen; a son Terry (Lynell O’Connor) of Williamsburg; a daughter Janet (Duane) Phipps of Grinnell; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Kalinay and three infant sons.

A celebration of life service will be 10:00 am Wednesday March 8, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00pm Tuesday March 7, 2023 at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
