Marilyn Joyce Possehl was born August 18, 1937, in South English, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Eleanor (Anderson) Mason. She graduated from Williamsburg High School as valedictorian in 1955. She was a bookkeeper for John Deere dealerships in Iowa City and North English and also worked for Elwood and Elwood Law Office.

In 1955, she married Stanley Kolosik and to this union were born three children Bonnie, Robin, and Shawn. They were later divorced. She married Dean Possehl on June 27, 1980, at the Methodist church in Williamsburg.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, was involved with bible study classes, volunteered over 1,000 hours at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, and volunteered at the Iowa County Historical Society. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with family and friends, reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting, flowers, traveling to find antiques, watching the Hawkeyes, and making blarney stones, Chex Mix, and potato salad. She loved everyone as family and never knew a stranger.

Marilyn passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, at Highland Ridge Care Center at the age of 85.

She is survived by her three children, Bonnie (Dave) Hackert of Sigourney, Robin (Carrie) Kolosik of Swisher and Shawn (Dawn) Kolosik of Walford; three step children, Harlan (Andrea) Possehl of Williamsburg, Gene (Virginia) Possehl of Marengo and Deborah Hubbell of Reinbeck; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Adams, of California, and a sister-in-law, Jill Mason, of Colfax, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, a sister Yvonne “Bonnie” (Glenn) Berry, a brother Donald Mason, a sister-in-law LaVerne Adams and a great-grandson Calan Anderson.

A celebration of life service will be 10:00 am Thursday, March 2, 2023 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A general Memorial has been established.
