Magdalena “Leni” Erna Richardt, 83, of Chelsea, IA passed away Friday, January 27, 2023 at Compass Memorial HealthCare, Marengo, IA

Magdalena was born May 25, 1939 to Berthold and Magdalena (Miller) Schneider in Forst, Germany where she attended school. Following school, she worked in manufacturing of paper products and for Singer sewing machine company. On October 4, 1963, Leni married Wendelin Richardt in Bruschal, Germany. In 1964 the couple moved to the United States for more opportunities. They lived in Cedar Rapids until purchasing their farm in rural Chelsea in the 1990’s.

Leni enjoyed ceramics, cooking, crocheting, hunting with Wendelin, and being a member of the Izaak Walton League in Cedar Rapids. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wendelin of Chelsea; sons, Mike (Kim) of Chelsea, Pete (Tami) of Walford, 4 grandchildren, Zach, Nichole, Sydney (Dylan) and Noah; sister, Maria Hintermaier of Germany.

Leni is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Walter Schneider.

Family would like to thank Jessica Rust and Kailynda Davis for their compassionate care through Essence of Life Hospice.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Belle Plaine with Father Michael McAndrew, and Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial will take place at National Cemetery, Vining, IA.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 1st at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine with Vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice of Amana. Online condolence can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
