Alma C. Stohlmann, age 88 of Williamsburg, died Sunday morning, August 28, 2005 in her home at the Lodge on Lafayette, Marengo following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2005, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Fellowship Hall. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son Duane Stohlmann and wife Jane of Williamsburg; a daughter Marna Durr and husband Steve also of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, Douglas Stohlmann and wife Mary, Joel Stohlmann and wife Jessica, Matthew Durr and wife Theresa and Anna Durr; and four great grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Matthew and Jessica. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Norma Webert and husband Arnold, and Wanda Huedepohl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Waldo in 1998, a grandson, Paul Stohlmann in 1971 and five brothers, Arnold, Ervin, Milton, Mellen and Orville Schmidt.
Alma Caroline Schmidt was born November 11, 1916, in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Caroline Sandersfeld Schmidt. She received her education in the York #2 country school, Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School and the Williamsburg High School. She married Waldo Stohlmann on December 15, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Williamsburg. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a housekeeper. Following her marriage she was a homemaker and worked for Holden Seed. She also was assistant manager and later manager of the Crest Hotel. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers, quilting and crocheting. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg and a member of St. Paul Altar Guild for over 30 years.
