Ruth grew up in Victor, IA on a farm that has been in her family for over a hundred years. She met Bert while working at Amana Refrigeration, a company Bert was auditing. In 1973, after a few dates, Ruth followed him to Illinois, and they married several months later.

They started their married life in Oswego on a rural property where they raised Sarah. They fell in love with horses, going from Sarah's local 4-H shows to her national championships. In 1994 they moved to Aurora as their interests turned to Sarah's education, golf and travel.

Ruth was an interior designer, running her own firm for over 30 years. Ruth's design gift was her ability to see the world in color.

As a member of Stonebridge Country Club, she loved Ladies League and couples' events. She was known for her long drives and effervescent personality.

Ruth's greatest pleasure though was being surrounded by family. Whether it was a simple visit or the large Iowa Christmas gatherings, Ruth was always busy making everyone feel loved. A big heart is her legacy. She has instilled it in all of us.

Beloved wife of 49 years to Leo "Bert" Dieter, loving mother of Sarah (Peter) Bentler of Glen Ellyn, IL, adored grandmother of Luke and Evan Bentler, devoted daughter of the late Raymond and Irene (nee Claeys) Beran, dear sister of Kathryn (Donald) Brush, Berniece (Ronald) Kleppe, Kenneth (Patricia) Beran, David (Joann) Beran, the late Bruce Beran and the late William (Ruth) Beran, sister-in-law of Larry Dieter, Lou Dieter (Sherryl Brown) and the late Lee Ann Dieter, fond cousin, aunt, and friend of many.
