Newell Davis Arp was born April 17, 1935, in Pilot Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of John and Mildred (Davis) Arp. He attended Williamsburg High School. He was Baptized on November 30, 1941 in the Congregational Church and was then Confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church on June 17, 1956. Newell was united in marriage to Arlene Zuber on June 19, 1956 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Together they lived in the Iowa-Johnson counties, they moved to Williamsburg in 1985 and most recently to Highland Ridge.

He farmed for 30 years, worked for Buck Hummer Trucking and later for Don Hummer Trucking. He enjoyed trips to visit family, collecting toy tractors, weekend trips with a special neighbor couple, attending his grandchildren’s events and visiting with his friends and neighbors.

Newell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg where he had been a resident for 3 months at the age of 87 years.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; five children, Terry (Bev) Arp of Oxford, Tammy (Joe) Rohret of Williamsburg, Julie (Tom) Spratt of Williamsburg, Brenda (Jeff) Taylor of Springville and Monica (Brad) Miller of North English; 11 grandchildren, Chris (Shelly) Arp, Alicia (Nathan) Johnson, Jesse (Jessica) Arp, Andy (Heather) Arp, Lea (Jared) Kleinmeyer, Katie (Eric) Petersen, Brandee (Matt) Gatchel, Ryan (Amber) Spratt, Jenna (Robbie) Nielsen, Cody Taylor and Chelsea (Spenser) Sones; 27 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Lois Jean Arp; two nieces Lori (Bill) McDowell and Lisa Arp and a nephew Joel (Trina) Arp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jon Lyn Arp and a grandson Parke Miller.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday before the service from 9:00-10:15 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church. The family is very appreciative of the care Newell received by the staff at Highland Ridge Care Center. Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com
