Joyce D. Watson, age 82, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Father David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Marengo. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with a vigil service at 4:00 P.M., and a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice, 3207 220th Trail, Amana, Iowa 52203, or St. Patrick’s Catholic in Marengo.

Joyce Darlene Collum Watson was born the daughter of Joseph and Mary Snook Collum on June 16, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised in rural Brooklyn, attending Scott #1 rural school (K-8), and graduated from Brooklyn high school in 1958. Joyce spent her teen years helping her father raise four younger brothers.

On August 8, 1970, Joyce married George William Watson at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. They spent their married life in rural Marengo before moving to town. She worked in the deli and meat department at the Big G Food Store before retiring. She was the Religious Ed. Coordinator for St. Pat’s in Marengo, taught Sunday School for many years, and was also the secretary of the Parish Council. Joyce enjoyed traveling, especially to the Western and Southwestern states.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 52 years, George of Marengo; her siblings Mary Ann Plants, Robert (Marilyn) Collum, and David (Mary Jo) Collum, all of Brooklyn; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Katie and Larry Lumm of Texas; her sisters-in-law Donna Collum of DeWitt, and Terry Collum of Scotch Grove; and her brothers-in-law Marvin Lacaeyse of Montezuma and Don Brau of Guernsey. Also surviving Joyce are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Joseph Collum Jr., Delores Lacaeyse, Patricia Brau, Tom Collum, Jim Collum, and John Paul Collum who died in infancy.
