Lois A. Fettkether, age 88, of Williamsburg passed away Monday June 20, 2022, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg. Per Lois’s wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa for research. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Marengo American Legion, Marengo, with Phil Buschmann officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time, at the Marengo American Legion. Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo Senior Dining. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lois is survived by her children Rebecca (Phillip) Fulks of Odessa, MO., Lawrence (Chris) Fettkether of Williamsburg, Jeanette (Charles) Dorn of Coeur d’ Alene, ID., Joseph (Charlna) Fettkether of St. Louis, MO., Ramona Bauerly of The Colony, TX., and Marty (Russell) Salfi of Sister Bay, WI.; nine grandchildren Matthew Sherwood of Eldridge, Iowa, Kollin (Lizzie) Fettkether of Marengo, Chloe Wasendorf of Ames, Charles Dorn, Jr. of Coeur d‘ Alene, ID., Erik Dorn of Coeur d’ Alene, ID., Joseph Bauerly of Lincoln, NE, Elizabeth Bauerly of The Colony, TX., Ross (Hannah) O’Donnell of Blairstown, and Jennifer (Shawn) Clark of Cedar Rapids; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving Lois are her siblings Laurine Jarrell of Dallas, TX., Jerrold (Eunice) Burns of Elcho, WI., and Joseph (Mary Jane) Burns of Cary, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth “Doc” in 2021, her siblings Donald Burns and Doris M. Crowe; a great-granddaughter Kennedi Sherwood, and a son-in-law William Bauerly.

Lois Ann Burns was born December 12, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Laurence Elmer and Dora Gretchen Schroeder Burns. At the age of seven, her family moved to Muscatine County and Lois graduated from Atalissa High School with the class of 1952. After working for Larew Company in Iowa City she married her honorably discharged Marine Kenneth Fettkether on November 21, 1953.

Lois worked for Iowa State College for several years while Ken was a student there. After being a fulltime mom in 1975 she began working for the Iowa County Treasurer’s office in the Motor Vehicle Department. After retiring in 2003, Lois served as a volunteer mediator for the small claims court in Iowa County and Johnson County.

She enjoyed playing cards and quilting. Lois drove the sag wagon for Ragbrai for many years. She loved spending time with her family and will be missed by many.
