Ruth Marie Meyer was born the daughter of Henry and Alma (Fruendt) Meyer on September 18, 1935, in rural Dayton Township in Iowa County south of Victor, Iowa. She attended Parochial school at St. John's Lutheran Church and graduated from Deep River High School in 1953.

Ruth was united in marriage to Wendall "Bud" Gwin, her high school sweetheart, on September 5, 1954, at St John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township south of Victor. They lived in Cedar Rapids until Bud was drafted into the Army in 1957. After his discharge in 1959, they moved to Victor, where they had lived all of their married lives. She started working for Roy and Richard Park in the insurance business in the early 1960's and retired as co-owner of McConnell, Park, and Gwin Insurance in 1997.

Ruth was very civically committed to her community; having served on the Victor City Council, the Victor Community Development Association and, until her illness, on the boards of the Victor Senior Housing and Victor Health Center.

She and Bud enjoyed traveling and, in her leisure, she spent many hours tending her yard and flower beds, playing cards with friends and the epic Meyer family euchre games, going on Red Hat outings and her one true joy, singing, whether it be in the church choir, community choir and especially with several local Sweet Adeline choruses to which she was an active member for over 40 years, the last being Metro Mix in Iowa City.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Valerie Hansen of Victor, and Sherri (Mark) Seaton of Deep River; her grandchildren, Chase (Codie) Hansen, Ashley (Cody) Stek, and Shawn (Sarah) Seaton; great grandchildren, Karsen, Karter, Kyra, JR, and Harper; brothers, Wayne (MaryAnne) Meyer of Williamsburg, Kenneth (Elaine) Meyer of Fairfax, and Donald (Judy) Meyer of Willard, MO; brothers and sisters-in laws, Marlene Gwin, Marilyn Baustian, Terry Bryan, Jan Bushong and Nita (Chris) Stanford; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death her husband, Bud, who passed in 2011, and her parents.
