Wayne Meade was born April 1, 1929, in Holbrook, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Ruth) Meade. He attended school in Holbrook and Parnell. Wayne served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. Wayne was united in marriage to Aileen Veronica Burke on June 4, 1955 in Walker, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Holbrook.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and past president of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeye’s, volunteering at the VA Hospital in Iowa City and attending his children and grandchildren’s activities. Wayne passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Briarwood Healthcare Center in Iowa City at the age of 93 years.

He is survived by his children, Pat (Mary Jane) Meade of Bettendorf, Shelley (Phil) Bishop of Solon, Denny Meade of Parnell, Tim Meade of Parnell, John (Carol) Meade of Newhall, Steve (Carman) Meade of Olathe, KS, Matt (Courtni) Meade of Lee’s Summit, MO and Joe (Carrie) Meade of Parnell; 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Marge Sauter of Williamsburg and 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley Meade of Holbrook and Marlene Meade Williamsburg.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Aileen, a daughter Susan in infancy, 3 sisters, Ann Cypra, Helen Meade and Geraldine Meade and 4 brothers, William, John, Vernon and Don Meade.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Holbrook. A Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, April 18, 2022 at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a prayer service at 3:30pm.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Camp Courageous. Powell Funeral Home Williamsburg is caring for Wayne and his family. Message and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
