Virgil Ray Marek, 73, formerly of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 in Georgia.

Mr. Marek was a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and had lived in Macon for 10 years before moving to Lake Sinclair 5 years ago. He was the son of the late Albert and Anna J. Fousek Marek; and was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Marek, and a sister, Gladys Jones. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam and he was the recipient of a Purple Heart award and Bronze Star. He was a retired salesman for Ecolabs Pharmaceutical Company and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Belle Plaine American Legion.

Virgil enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and most of all spending time with family.

Virgil lived a good life; he was very charismatic, genuine and left a mark on many. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Holley Marek of Sparta GA; daughter, Julia Marek of Osage Beach, MO; son, Jason Marek of Elebron, IA; sisters, Lavona LaGrange, Dolores VanGeenen, and Karen Konen; brother, Donald Marek; and 4 grandchildren.

Celebration of life is 11-2 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Belle Plaine American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to neuhausfuneralservice.com

Graveside service is 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2022 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg, IA with military honors.

Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service is assisting the family.
