Jerry Lyle Tanner, 81, of Marengo went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2021 at his home in Marengo.

A funeral service for the immediate family only will be held at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with Pastor Stuart Vander-Vegte, Victor United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff Weisskopf, Craig Buscher, Paul Hahn, Sion Fontinel, Sarah Verretta, Brianna Kappos, Lucas Buscher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Caden Fontinel, Cole Fontinel, Hannah Johnson, Logan Johnson, and Olivia Verretta. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery.

The service will be streamed on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page available to view on December 24, 2021.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Ladora Heritage United Methodist Church, in care of the Smith Funeral Home in Victor, 808 4th St, Victor, IA 52347.

Jerry was born February 22, 1940, in Iowa County, the son of Harold and Hazel (Freeze) Tanner. He lived his entire life in rural Iowa County, just outside of Ladora.

On October 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Judith Ann (Hawkins) Tanner in Preston, Minnesota. The couple lived on their family farm in Iowa County where he farmed and was a cattle rancher.

Jerry’s passion was farming and cattle ranching. He partook in tractor pulls, bare back bronco riding when he was part of the saddle club, square dancing and enjoyed watching western movies. His passion for baseball and basketball continued after playing in high school and for a local baseball team, as an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed traveling to the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Branson to see country entertainers and to the Amish country in Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his three children, Justine (Jeff) Weisskopf of Victor, Pam (Paul) Hahn of Tualatin, Oregon, and Peg (Craig) Buscher of Bondurant; four grandchildren and their respective spouses, Sion Fontinel, Sarah Verretta, Brianna Kappos, and Lucas Buscher; five great-grandchildren, Caden and Cole Fontinel, Hannah and Logan Johnson, and Olivia Verretta; brother Gary (Marilyn) Tanner of Victor; sister Betty (Art) Fudge of Edgewood; sister-in-law Bernna Deane Hawkins and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 63 years Judy, and his parents.
