Dennis "Hershey" Herzberg, 68, of Ladora, died on November 9, 2021, at home, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

A celebration of life service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 13th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with Rev. Scott Lemaster of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor officiating. Pallbearers will be Chuck Baetsle, Johnny DeSmet, Ed Healey, Lee Kovar, Chad Landuyt, David Miller, Joe Seye, and Dennis Shine. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Lynn and Gary Schafbuch. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Visitation with the Herzberg family present will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 12th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Dennis Herzberg Family and mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Dennis was born on April 15, 1953, in Belle Plaine, the son of Wayland Dean and Mary Kay Wentland Herzberg. He was raised in several communities in Iowa and later moved to Eugene, Oregon. He was a 1971 graduate of North Eugene High School in Eugene, before moving back to Iowa.

On September 30, 1978, he was united in marriage to Brenda Lynn Landuyt, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. The couple lived in Hartwick for 23 years and then in 1999, they moved to their current home, an acreage near Ladora.

Dennis was employed at the Donaldson Company in Grinnell from 1976 to 1998, then with Harden Brothers Propane, Inc. in Victor, and later with International Ingredients in Marengo for 19 years, from which he retired in 2018.

Dennis loved to help with farming practices, carpentry, and mowing and caring for his lawn. He was a fan of all sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes; and enjoyed playing cards, trout fishing in Northern Iowa, and hunting. Dennis loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Ladora; his mother, Mary Kay of Eugene, Oregon; three children, Brian (Jessie) Herzberg of Cedar Rapids, Kacie (Chris) Allick of Cedar Rapids, and Jared (Jessica) Herzberg of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Max, Jalen, and Jaxon Herzberg; and three sisters, Marsha (Jay) Hanson of Salem, Oregon, Luane Doerries of Reno, Nevada, and Sarah (Jeff) Eastlund of Salem, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayland Herzberg and one sister, Barb McNanee.
