Russell Alan Hawkins, age 70, of Marengo, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at Unity Point St. Luke’s, Cedar Rapids. Private family graveside services will be held at Kostza Cemetery, rural Marengo. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.

Russell is survived by Doris K; three children, Craig (Angela) Hawkins, of Marengo, Cody (Sara) Hawkins, of Wellman, and Julie (Melissa) Hawkins, of Marengo; five grandchildren, Amanda, Steven, Kaleb, Gracie and Megan; a sister, Rosemary K. (Roger) Marquardt, of Kostza; his three girls, his labs, Marley, Bella and Bailey; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Rollin, Robert and Roger.

Russell was born January 19, 1951, in Iowa City, the son of Robert and Lorna May (Shaull) Hawkins. He attended the Kostza Country School and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1969. Russell was united in marriage to Doris K. VanBlaricom on July 30, 1971.

Throughout the years, he worked at Amana Whirlpool, Swift Feeds and Sullivan Graphics. After retirement, he enjoyed mowing lawns. Russell was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and NASCAR fan. He liked to go on drives through the country side, camping and fishing. Russell never knew a stranger. He had wonderful sense of humor and was a jokester.
