George Robert “Bob” DeDecker, age 90, of Victor, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Windsor Manor in Grinnell.

A public visitation will begin at 12pm, Sunday, October 17 at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the family present from 2:00pm -4:00pm. The family requests for all guests in attendance, to please wear a facemask. A graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 11:00 am, Monday, October 18 at the Victor Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be designated to the Victor Fire Department and may be sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.

Bob was born on July 7, 1931 in Irving, Iowa, the son of Fred and Gladys Roberts DeDecker. He was raised in Victor and graduated from Victor High school with the class of 1950. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he honorably served his country aboard the U.S.S Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier.

On August 18, 1956 Bob was united in marriage to Phyllis Dietrich at The Trinity United Church of Christ in Marengo. To this union the couple was blessed with four daughters: Candace, Brenda, Margo, and Jill. Bob and Phyllis raised their daughters in Victor, where he worked as a mechanic for Koehn Motor, construction for Bushong Construction, and the HLV School District as Director of Maintenance and Transportation eventually retiring in 1996.

Bob served his community as a volunteer fireman for the Victor Fire Department and was a former HLV Booster Club President. He was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Candace Crane of Victor, Brenda (Michael O’Connell) DeDecker of Cedar Rapids, Margo (Todd) Parker of Victor, and Jill (Pat) Foley of Clive, IA; grandchildren, Brandon and Ellyssa Crane, Amanda Rops, Jeremiah Frahm, Britni (Beau) Jack, Bryce (Arial) Hasley, Jordan (Tyler) Rich, Mackenzie and Karson Foley; step-granddaughter, Deanna Parker; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Lance Crane, grandson Damien Crane, step-grandson Derik Parker, and great-grandson Briggs Jack.
